Sunday Rewind: The Why Of Clockwise

By HODINKEE

Ever wonder why clock and watch hands rotate in a (generally) uniform direction? As it turns out, the concept of “clockwise” is no accident or afterthought and our own Jack Forster dug into the topic to find out the story behind something many of us take for granted. Originally published in October of 2017, clockwise is rooted in the motion of the sun and while most clocks and watches follow this left-to-right format, there are, of course, some rather interesting exceptions to the established format.

From superstitions to public clocks and even time travel, Jack brings the goods in a post that is more about humanity than it is the ways in which we have agreed to measure and display the passage of time. How better to approach the end of the decade if not by looking back at an educational and entertaining write up concerning the concepts of how we interface with the passage of time?
