In The Shop – Style Guide: Three Of Our Favorite Versatile Watches With Three Strap Pairings Each
Here at HODINKEE, we love changing the straps on our watches; it’s so easy, and it can completely transform the look of a watch to swap out a bracelet with a leather strap, or dress a watch up or down with different strap styles. To show this in action, we’ve paired a few of our favorite watches from the Shop with three strap/bracelet options each.

The Zenith El Primero Chronomaster gives you one of the greatest chronographs of all time, but made today. Beyond the iconic El Primero integrated, automatic chronograph movement, the likewise classic dial layout is perfectly proportioned in the modern 38mm case. At first glance, this might not seem like a very versatile design, but looks can be deceiving. Here, we’ve paired the blue dial El Primero with our Davenport Strap in Red Clay (top), the included Zenith blue alligator strap (bottom left), and our Dark Brown Leather Racing Strap.
The Davenport in Red Clay has a more distressed finish, perfect for more casual or everyday wear, and the red color really makes the red accents on the dial pop. The Zenith-provided blue alligator strap nicely complements the blue dial, and dresses up an otherwise sporty chronograph. The Dark Brown Racing Strap, which is a play on ’60s racer-style straps, adds a sporty bent, and the combination harkens back to the original El Primero model. As you can see, changing the strap drastically changes the appearance of the watch, easily transitioning from sporty to everyday to dressier occasions.
Grand Seiko SBGR309
The Grand Seiko SBGR309 is an in-house automatic dress watch with a clean black dial and a stainless steel case. With its 42mm case size and sturdy steel bracelet, this watch has a lot of presence on the wrist. Here we have it on the provided bracelet, but also paired with our Distressed Grey Leather Strap and our Textured Light Grey Calfskin Strap.
