It’s not secret that the watch industry is going through a lot of changes right now. From changes in the global retail environment to the emergence of e-commerce as a major force to changing consumer tastes, there’s a lot going on and the big watchmakers are trying to figure out the best path (or paths) forward. In an effort to suss out exactly what’s going on and how the industry is adapting, the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) has just published its Watchmaking Trends Report 2018.
The 35-page document details plenty of business case studies and more brass tacks details, but it also covers the softer side of watchmaking, looking at the people involved today and how the emotional side of this industry will play a big part in its future. Along with the report itself, the FHH published an article by well known author and journalist Nick Foulkes (who you may remember from his epic book on Patek Philippe, amongst other things, in which he provides some valuable perspective on the report as a whole. Both are well worth a read.
